Virtual Yard Sale: Dreams of Disney World.

Last fall, Halis and I made plans to take the kids to Disney World. We bought the plane tickets and put a deposit down on the Disney Resort package. Then, life happened. Over and over again. And our payments toward our vacation came to a halt. Now we have about 5 weeks to come up with the final payment toward our vacation and are getting very proactive about making this happen for our family. We have already had to cancel and rebook the trip once, which cost us about $500 in fees … and should we cancel this time, we stand to lose about $1200. So, we are determined that we are going!

And the kids, well, they are willing to do all they can to make this fabulous trip happen too. They are willing to part with beloved toys (the Wii even!), to collect returnables at parks, to hold yard sales, to sell their artwork, etc. I am so proud of them. Isaac has joined his bank’s reading program where if he reads 10 books this summer they will put $10 in his bank account. He is on book #8 and so proud of his $10 contribution 🙂 He is also our family’s coin collector and has brought $62 to his bank account from coins he has found around the house. All for Disney.

So, I thought we might help our efforts by holding a virtual yard sale here on the blog as well. Certainly there are other causes for which we could continue to fund raise for … and although I would/try to do all I can for Haiti (as most of you know) … and have done much fundraising for Haitian causes in the recent past (as well as our local Humane Society) … I need to remember that our children will benefit from fundraising for their own wants/goals too. My kids are so generous to be sure … and Isaac has already once suggested that we give our Disney money away to Haiti (tears of pride by Mommy) … but I have to draw the line somewhere and show them that their lives are important as well … and their wants have value and importance.

So, this is a different sort of fundraising than has been done here in the past. The kids (and the adults) are parting with goodies that you may want/need … at bargain prices!

We will begin the sale tomorrow. So far, the sale will include a Wii console & games, new and used books of all kinds, some artwork by the kiddos, some one-of-a-kind art by Mommy, dvds, homeschooling goodies, new and used clothing, quilting items, fabrics, toys, some “manly” items contributed by Daddy, vintage pictures for collage, and all sorts of fun stuff that I can’t think of right now. All items (unless otherwise stated) can be shipped within the US and possibly Canada. All details of each item will be clearly stated.

Thank you all! And I hope you find a great bargain in our virtual yard sale! See you back here tomorrow 🙂

Love,
Jodi
